Individual Therapy
The therapy space is special. It is a rare place where one can be listened to attentively with interest and non-judgment. This is valuable for everyone.
Whether you’re struggling with a particular issue that is causing problems in your life or just feeling like you need to talk to someone and aren’t even sure why, then therapy could be very helpful.
Our patterns and emotional protection systems are years in the making and exist for good reasons. Becoming aware of why we do what we do allows some space for self-compassion and from there, we can start to learn how to heal. We aren’t meant to get through hard times on our own.
Issues that may have brought you into therapy:
Life transitions
Addiction
Imposter syndrome/self-worth
Trauma (including childhood neglect, abuse, sexual abuse, physical abuse, PTSD and complex trauma)
Relationship struggles
Grief (loss in all forms)
Depression (mild, severe, situational)
A diagnosis such as bipolar, borderline personality disorder, ADHD
Anxiety (social, generalized, OCD, trauma-related)
Work-related or caregiver burnout
Chronic illness or pain
Perfectionism
This partial list is posted to let you know that you are welcome here with me, regardless of what you are struggling with. You are human before you identify with any kind of issue or diagnosis.
We will work together in the first session to determine if the kind of therapy I can provide is what you need. If not, I will do my best to refer you to someone who can.
Every journey requires movement.
Step, step, step ...
What is psychodynamic psychotherapy anyways?
We all have a profound wish to be known. Usually that takes time. It takes time to open up and trust someone. This type of talk therapy does tend to be longer term but can be shorter term depending on your needs.
We do explore childhood experiences to help understand current behaviours and emotions. We go deeper to understand the roots of our problematic symptoms.
It is grounded in the belief that we are emotional beings that know how to think. There are no bad emotions. They all have information for us about who we are. Learning how to find them, feel them and use them is a goal.
My relationship with you, the client is alive in the present in each session. It too is a source of valuable information about how we exist in the world.
When we can start to observe our behaviour through the compassionate lens of “that makes sense”, we can begin to heal and make the positive changes we desire in our thinking, feeling, and functioning. I can help.
“I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.”
